Former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum faces several months on the sidelines after Roma announced he has broken his leg.
The Holland international had only signed for Jose Mourinho’s team on loan from Paris Saint-Germain over the summer but now looks likely to miss the first half of the campaign.
Wijnaldum, 31, made his debut for Roma in their 1-0 away win at Salernitana in Serie A on August 14 but then suffered the serious setback during a training session.

Georginio Wijnaldum, on loan at Roma from PSG, could face several weeks on the sidelines

Wijnaldum played in Roma’s season-opening win against Salernitana before the injury setback
A Roma statement read: ‘Following an injury sustained during training this afternoon, Georginio Wijnaldum subsequently underwent medical tests that confirmed the presence of a fracture to the tibia in his right leg.
‘The player will undergo further assessments in the coming days. FORZA GINI!’
Wijnaldum could be out for at least three months, putting his participation in the World Cup for Holland in doubt.

The injury news will come as a blow to Roma manager Jose Mourinho, who signed him on loan
Having departed Liverpool for PSG last summer, Wijnaldum was often used as a substitute during his first Ligue 1 season and was duly sent out on loan to Roma for more game time.
